How Much Does a Website Cost in Malaysia in 2026?

By Sanjay Gunabalan · Founder & CEO, Aurexis Solution

Price tags showing typical website costs in Malaysia: freelancer RM1,500, agency RM5,000, custom system RM15,000+, and a question mark for year two.

Ask around about website cost in Malaysia and you might hear RM800, RM3,000 and RM12,000 for what sounds like the same job. All three can be honest quotes. What you pay depends on two things: what the site has to do, and who keeps it running after launch.

Here is what each option costs in Malaysia today, based on public prices we collected from Malaysian providers in October 2026.

Website cost in Malaysia: the short answer

| Option | What you pay upfront | What you keep paying | |---|---|---| | Free website builder, done yourself | RM0 to a few hundred | A monthly plan for your own domain and no ads | | Website builder with a setup service | Around RM1,000 setup | Roughly RM75 to RM155 a month | | Freelancer | RM1,500 to RM6,000 | Usually nothing agreed, until something breaks | | Web design agency | Around RM3,000 to RM5,000 to start | Hosting and maintenance, quoted separately | | Booking, e-commerce or custom system | RM4,000 to RM15,000 and up | Database hosting and upkeep |

If you only remember one thing: a simple business website in Malaysia usually costs between RM1,500 and RM5,000 to build. Anything that takes bookings, sells products or stores customer data costs more, because it has to hold and protect that data.

What you are actually paying for

Two quotes for "a website" can describe very different jobs. Check what each one covers:

  • Pages and words. Is it one page or ten? Who writes the text? Copywriting is often a separate charge.
  • Design. A ready-made template is cheaper. A design made for your business costs more and looks less like everyone else's.
  • Features. A WhatsApp button and an enquiry form are standard. Online booking, payments and customer logins are a different level of work.
  • Setup. Domain name, hosting, SSL (the padlock in the browser), Google Analytics and your Google Business Profile. Some quotes include all of this. Some include none.
  • After launch. Who fixes it when a form stops sending, or updates your prices when they change?

When a quote looks cheap, it is usually because one of these is missing.

The cost people forget: year two

Most people compare the launch price. The bigger number is often what you pay every year after that.

Take a website builder plan at RM150 a month. That is RM1,800 a year, every year, before any setup fee. Over three years it comes to RM5,400. A site built once and hosted for a yearly fee can work out cheaper, unless you need someone to change it often. Then a monthly plan that includes edits may be worth it.

Other costs that come back every year:

  • Domain renewal
  • Hosting
  • Business email on your own domain
  • Changes you can't make yourself

Before you sign anything, ask one question: "What do I pay in year two if I change nothing?" A good provider can answer straight away.

Which type of website fits your business

You need customers to find you and trust you're real. A small site of three to five pages is enough: what you do, where you are, how to contact you, with a WhatsApp button on every page. One auto parts shop we work with in Sungai Petani had served customers for decades through word of mouth. A simple site explaining their parts and services, with WhatsApp for stock checks, let new customers find them online.

Customers ask you the same questions every day. You need more pages, not a fancier design. Give each service its own page with a short FAQ, so customers get answers before they call. This suits logistics, training and professional services, where buyers compare providers carefully.

You take bookings. If your team spends hours confirming appointments on the phone, a booking system is usually worth it. Customers pick a slot, fill in their details and get a confirmation. It costs more than a normal site because it has to show live availability and store customer records safely.

You sell products. An online shop needs a cart, a Malaysian payment gateway (FPX, cards, e-wallets), stock tracking and shipping settings. Marketplaces like Shopee and Lazada are cheaper to start with. Your own shop gives you the customer relationship and no marketplace commission.

6 questions to ask before you pay anyone

  1. Is the domain registered in my name? If the designer owns it, you don't fully own your website.
  2. What exactly is included? Copywriting, photos, WhatsApp button, Google Business Profile, analytics.
  3. How many rounds of changes do I get?
  4. What do I pay in year two?
  5. Can I edit the text myself, or do I pay every time?
  6. If we stop working together, can I take my website with me?

If the answers are vague, the final bill usually isn't.

What we charge

We publish our prices, because most Malaysian agencies don't, and you shouldn't have to book a call just to find out.

  • Landing page from RM1,525: a 3-page site with mobile-first design, an enquiry form to your email, WhatsApp click-to-chat, basic SEO and Google Analytics. Ready in 3 to 7 days.
  • Business site from RM3,250: up to 5 pages, Google Business Profile setup and text you can edit yourself.
  • Booking site from RM3,250 and e-commerce store from RM4,250, for businesses that take appointments or sell online.

Care plans for hosting, backups, security and monthly edits start from RM350 a month and are optional for standard websites. Every price is a starting point, fixed after a short call about what you need.

You can see everything included on our Presence page. And if you're planning to run enquiries through the WhatsApp Business API, read what Meta's new reply charges mean for you first.
